Beyond socials, LACMS runs ongoing programmes to support members academically, professionally and personally.

Flagship programme

Sankofa Mentorship

Our intergenerational mentorship scheme organises members into small "Sankofa Circles" grouped by shared interest - each spanning a sixth-form aspiring medic, a medical student from every year of study, an F1/F2 alumni doctor, and a senior doctor or consultant.

Everyone supports the person just behind them, creating one continuous chain of mentorship from sixth form through medical school and into clinical practice. Circles meet termly, with additional check-ins between individual mentors and mentees.

Termly workshops covering OSCE technique, revision strategy, note-taking systems and staying well through assessment season - run by senior students who've been through it.

Widening Access to Medicine

We visit local schools and colleges to run talks and workshops for students from underrepresented backgrounds considering a career in medicine or healthcare - from personal statement guidance to mock interviews.
